{Notes: The 'C D' in the verse is played on the track by sliding the
C chord up to 3rd fret and back, arpeggiating(?), while the bass line
dances around to wonderful effect. I just strum the chords. I also
tend to play a lot of the chords with the two little fingers at 3rd
fret, except for the D, e.g.

     G Asus4 C Am7

This generally makes it easier to shift between chords, and makes
things a bit more interesting than playing them straight, although
 it's not always appropriate -- in the bridge for instance}

C D C D

C D C D C D C D
Never been near a university

C D C D C D C D
Never took a paper or a learned degree

G Asus4
Some of your friends think that's stupid of me,

         C D
But it's nothing that I care about,

       C D G Am7
Well I don't know how to tell the weight of the sun,

        C D G Am7
And all mathematics well I just shun,

      G E Am D
And I may be the mayor of simpleton, but I know one thing,

             C D C D
And that's I love you

           C D C/E D/F#
When their logic grows cold and all thinking gets done,

          C/G D/A D G C G G
You'll be warm in the arms of the mayor of simpleton

C D C D

I can't have been there when brains were handed round
(Please be upstanding for the mayor of simpleton)
Or get past the covers of your books profound
(Please be upstanding for the mayor of simpleton)
Some of your friends think it's really unsound
That you're even seen talking to me

Well I don't know how to write a big hit song,
And all mathematics well I want none,
And I may be the mayor of simpleton, but I know one thing,
And that's I love you

        Bm Em
I'm not proud of the fact that I never learned much,

     G
Just feel I should say,

         Bm Em
What you get is all real, I can't put on an act,

         C D
it takes brains to do that anyway (and anyway)

Well I don't know how to puzzle problems and puns
And a home computer has me on the run
And I may be the mayor of simpleton, but I know one thing,
And that's I love you (I love you)

If depth of feeling is a currency
(Please be upstanding for the mayor of simpleton)
Then I'm the man who grew the money tree
(No chain of office and no hope of getting one)
Some of your friends are to brainy to see
That they're paupers and that's how they'll all stay

Well I don't know how many needles make up a ton
Of all the Nobel prizes that I never one,
And I may be the mayor of simpleton, but I know one thing,
And that's I love you

           C D C/E D/F#
When their logic grows cold and all thinking gets done,

          C/G D/A D G C G G
You'll be warm in the arms of the mayor of simpleton
You'll be warm in the arms of the mayor of simpleton

          C D7sus4/A
You'll be warm in the arms of the mayor

(Please be upstanding for the mayor of simpleton)
